How to train lagging muscle groups

If you have lagging muscle group areas here are some tips to try to even them out:

  • Train lagging muscle groups first in your training sessions. 
  • Make the first exercises for that lagging muscle group include multi-joint exercises.
  • Too much and too little training volume can be equally detrimental to progress. If you've been doing relatively lower training volumes, try going through some periods of higher training volume. If you've been dedicating a larger portion of your training volume to that lagging group, try reducing the volume to that muscle group.
  • Include a variety of exercises with different planes of motion, and different types of resistance (cables, dumbbells, etc.), single and multi-joint. 
  • Train the smaller side first and then match the volume with the opposite side.
